Who Can Do The Tour: This tour is tailored for children aged 4 and up. Please note that navigating stairs, crossing hanging bridges, and walking on gravel and dirt trails are necessary to access Rio Negro Hot Springs. Therefore, it is not advised for individuals with walking or mobility issues.

Thermal Pools

Rio Negro Hot Springs offer a variety of rejuvenating and therapeutic properties. These hot springs are naturally heated in the depths of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, creating a beautiful and relaxing environment. 

There are 10 different thermal pools to enjoy while at Rio Negro Hot Springs. These pools vary from 35°C (95°F)-45°C (113°F).

Mud Bath

Following your soak in the thermal pools, seize the chance to experience the advantages of the volcanic mud masque. The application of the volcanic mud masque will provide a revitalizing body treatment. Subsequently, rinse off the dried masque in the cool and refreshing waters of Rio Negro, leaving your skin refreshed and renewed.

Properties of the hot volcanic mud: This volcanic mud mask is an antiseptic, purifying analgesic, detoxifying, anti-inflammatory and regenorating.

The Waterfalls

Across from the reception there is a waterfall hike where you will have the opportunity to visit 4 waterfalls all varying in size. At the bottom of each waterfall is a calm pool of cool fresh water to swim in coming from Rio Negro. 

Each waterfall is clearly marked with a sign labeled catarata 1-4. 

The duration of this hike will take approximately 30 minutes, but it can vary significantly depending on how long you want to spend visiting each waterfall along the way and if you decide to swim in the pools below the waterfalls.

What to Bring

  • Bugspray and suncreen: As you venture into the forest be proactive and apply sunscreen and bug’s spray, as the Costa Rican sun can be deceptive.
  •  A water bottle:  We recommend bringing a water bottle because there aren’t any water fountains around the hot springs so come prepared.
  • Appropriate shoes: You will be traveling across some different terains to reach the hot springs and waterfalls so appropatie shoes are essential for your safety and comfort.
  • Swimwear: For maximum comfort while relaxing in the thermal pools and river, swimwear is suggested. 
  • Change of clothes: There are several differnt dressing rooms around the hot springs. We suggest bringing dry clothes to change into after the hot springs. 
  • Towels will be provided to you at reception.

This trail consists of volcanic activity while you learn the legend of the volcano, different species of plants, trees and volcanic activity.

Oropendola Waterfall: Get ready for a refreshing dip in the La Oropendola Waterfall. This is a small walk of half a mile each way (1km) that you do on your own along a path of varied terrain that leads to the river. You also walk a small distance inside the river until you reach the waterfall. La Oropendola waterfall, with its impressive 25 meters, falls into a bubbling turquoise pool in the exuberant canyon of the Blanco River, creating an incredible tropical oasis.
